San Antonio is about to score a fitness win for every body. The YMCA of Greater San Antonio and Morgan’s are teaming up on an “ultra-accessible” fitness center opening in late 2026 in Morgan’s Longhorn Quarry campus at 5223 David Edwards Dr., designed so people of all abilities can break a sweat safely and comfortably.

“Our vision is to create a fitness environment where no one feels left out,” says Gordon Hartman, Founder and Board Chair of Morgan’s, in a press release. “By working together, Morgan’s and the YMCA are making health and wellness truly accessible for all.”

Morgan’s — an organization dedicated to promoting accessibility for people with disabilities — will incorporate the fitness center as part of the larger Morgan’s Sports complex. The local organization is a leader in accessible public facilities, operating theme park Morgan’s Wonderland and the upcoming Morgan’s Hotel.

“The new facility will feature specialized fitness equipment to ensure that everyone, from beginners to advanced athletes, including individuals with disabilities, will have the opportunity to achieve their personal health and wellness goals,” explains Louis Lopez, CEO of YMCA of Greater San Antonio.

According to a University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute study, only about 40 percent of the disabled community engage in regular exercise. A major contributing factor is the lack of access to equipment. Many commercial gyms do not have adaptive machines, and they are often prohibitively expensive for home gyms. Medicaid rarely covers the cost of exercise equipment in spite of its noted health benefits. Having more accessible fitness spaces backed by the YMCA helps normalize the needs of people with disabilities in such spaces.

“This partnership allows us to continue learning and moving together as we discover what true inclusivity in fitness looks like,” said Dr. Brent Fields, CEO of Morgan’s. “The Y’s mission is to create a better future for everyone, which is also at the heart of Morgan’s.”

The new facility is also part of a continued expansion for the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, which will now have 12 locations in the area. The organization will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026, which is also when the new facility will open. Group and individual exercise programs will be available across a wide swath of activity levels.
