It’s late November, so I’m comfortable saying this: I had one of the best meals this year at the recently opened Casa Brasa. Yes, it’s that good.

Located in Preston Commons off of Preston Road, Casa Brasa is the latest restaurant from chef Omar Flores, known for Whistle Britches in Plano and Even Coast in Far North Dallas, near Addison, and from the Marshi family of Big Dill Hospitality.

As Local Profile previously reported, chef Omar Flores’ culinary story began in his family’s restaurants in El Paso, where he developed a deep appreciation for hospitality and flavor. After earning a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from New Mexico State University, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. His Dallas debut came with the acclaimed seafood restaurant Driftwood, which earned him two James Beard Foundation nominations for Best Chef Southwest in 2015 and 2016.

What To Expect

Casa Brasa is Latin cuisine meets sushi meets steakhouse. Which might seem like Casa Brasa is all over the place. It’s not. It works. And works brilliantly.

The name “Brasa” is from the Spanish word for embers and references the open-fire grills of Latin America. “Casa Brasa was born from fire; not just in the kitchen, but in its spirit,” says Alec Marshi, CEO and co-founder of Big Dill Hospitality. “Every curve, every texture, every material was chosen to radiate warmth and evoke connection. It’s a space that invites people to gather, to feel and to celebrate.”

Inside and outside, this is a stunning restaurant: texture, tiles and marble galore.

What To Order

The sushi and steakhouse are great and worth the price of admission alone.

But look deeper in the menu: fantastic dishes await, like the Spanish octopus, one of the chef’s specialities, served with chickpea stew, chorizo cantimpalo, zhoug and yogurt, and the beef albondiga soup with angus beef and basmati rice meatballs, tomato broth, calabazas, cilantro and avocado tostada. Both were the culinary equivalent of a warm hug — comfort food does at an exceedingly high level.

The drinks were excellent, and the hazelnut dessert was delicious.
