SAN ANTONIO – A suspect is behind bars after attempting to rob a store at knifepoint in an attempted Thanksgiving Day heist.

Around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to the scene of a robbery in progress at a store near the corner of Leal Street and North Zarzamora on the West Side.

According to police, the suspect had been purchasing an item at the register when he displayed a knife at the cashier.

Police say the suspect, identified as a 43-year-old male, attempted to take all the money in the register, but began to physically struggle with the cashier, a 33-year-old woman.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, but police established a search area and took him into custody without any major injuries.

The suspect has been charged with Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, as well as other charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
