  • November 29, 2025

HOUSTON – A suspect in a family disturbance died after shooting himself after officers found him at a highway underpass on Houston’s northside. An officer also fired his weapon during the incident.

The Houston Police Department said the incident happened in the 1400 block of E. Crosstimbers Street.

According to Assistant Chief Luis Menendez, officers were called at 12:54 p.m. to a family disturbance at a home off Jensen Drive where someone had stolen a vehicle and a gun.

They later learned family members found the vehicle on Crosstimbers, but were unable to locate the weapon or the man who had taken it.

Menendez said officers began looking for the suspect and found him at the highway underpass at the Hardy Toll Road and Crosstimbers Street.

As officers approached, Menendez said the suspect pulled out a pistol and pointed it at his head.

Officers pleaded with the man to put the gun down and to not harm himself, but the suspect shot himself and died at the scene.

At the same time the suspect fired, one of the officers fired a single round at the suspect. It is unclear if the suspect was hit by the officer’s round.

Multiple agencies are investigating the incident and the officer-involved shooting.
