MISSION – We honor the life of a man who lived with purpose, loyalty, and immense love, Gilbert Garza Jr. A veteran, devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a man whose presence made every room warmer, brighter, and more welcoming. Gilbert passed away on November 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will be felt for generations. Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025, in Greenwood Funeral Home Memorial Suite B, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth. Funeral: 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Mae; his sisters, Lucinda Gomez and Hermalinda Esquivel; his children, Michael Countryman, Marty Countryman, Laura Sanders, Gilbert Garza III and his wife, Leslie, Angela Sanchez and her husband, Angel, and Eliana Quevedo and her husband, Jorge. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. Family was the heartbeat of his life, and he showed it in every way he knew how. Gilbert proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 40 years, both on active duty and in the reserves, before retiring as a Navy veteran. His dedication continued at Lockheed Martin, where he brought the same discipline, pride, and commitment that had guided his military career. He loved his country, and he carried that pride with him every day. Beyond his accomplishments, Gilbert was the kind of man you never forgot. He knew no stranger. He was well-traveled and well-educated, but even more importantly, he was generous with both his knowledge and his kindness. Gilbert worked tirelessly to give his family a good life, and he never hesitated to go to the ends of the earth for those he loved. He showed up for his family, always. Graduations, weddings, celebrations, milestones big or small. If his children or grandchildren were there, so was he. His nieces and nephews felt that same unconditional support. He played a special and steady role in many of their lives. A particularly meaningful bond in Gilbert’s life was with his younger brother, Joe. After their parents passed away, Gilbert took Joe in, and the two became inseparable. They shared life as brothers and best friends. Even after Joe’s passing, that connection remained an important part of Gilbert’s heart and story. And of course, Gilbert’s love for football was unmistakable. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan through every season. Game days were an event filled with energy, excitement, and occasionally some spirited yelling at the television. Gilbert Garza Jr. lived a life of courage, faith, humor, and devotion. He leaves behind memories that will be shared for generations, stories of a man who loved deeply and lived fully. Though he will be missed dearly, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the family he built, the people he inspired, and the countless lives he touched. May he rest in peace, honored for his service, cherished for his love, and remembered always.
