VERO BEACH, Fla. (WKRC) – A man allegedly attempted to escape arrest by spraying eight sheriff’s deputies and a K-9 unit with bear repellent.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, 31-year-old Kyle Young was walking down the side of a highway when a sergeant told him to stop, which he ignored and ran into the woods. Young reportedly continued to walk away from law enforcement as they repeated lawful commands for him to stop.
Young eventually yelled at the deputies to “leave him alone” before pulling out a canister that was “later determined to be bear repellent spray,” the affidavit said.
After Young ran away from deputies again, a K-9 unit was utilized to apprehend the suspect, according to the affidavit. When the dog got near Young, he allegedly pulled out the bear spray and shot it toward the dog and eight other deputies.
The reporting deputy used his stun gun on Young, incapacitating him for long enough to allow authorities to apprehend him, the report said. Upon falling to the ground, Young reportedly dropped a firearm.
The eight affected deputies were treated for chemical exposure, according to the affidavit.
Young was charged with resisting an officer without violence and eight counts of battery on an officer
