PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Troopers used a grappler to stop a suspected impaired driver accused of driving recklessly through Maryvale on Thanksgiving morning.
A trooper tried to stop a driver near 99th Avenue and Camelback Road after seeing the vehicle going 45 mph in a 65 mph zone, weaving between lanes and driving through a gore point, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The driver reportedly kept driving for about a mile before turning into a parking lot. As the driver tried to speed up, troopers deployed a grappler to stop the car, according to DPS.
The driver, whose name was not released, reportedly failed field sobriety tests, and a search of the car uncovered methamphetamine crushed into the driver’s side floorboard.
Authorities say the convicted felon was arrested on charges including unlawful flight, DUI, drugs and destruction of evidence. The driver was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County jail with blood test results pending.
