Long Island commuters could experience their first taste of winter weather on Tuesday morning when rain and light snow sweep through the area, federal forecasters say.

A low front moving south and east of New York will bring a wintry mix to parts of the Island, according to the National Weather Service.

Upstate Orange County will bear the brunt of the snow with 4 to 7 inches expected, according to federal meteorologists.

Parts of Connecticut and Northern New Jersey will also see some accumulation, butĀ farther down the coast toward the city, the storm will dump mostly rain, albeit with some snow in Staten Island, Manhattan and the Bronx, the weather service said.

Long Island is not expected to see snow accumulation, with mostly rain falling Tuesday morning and ending in the afternoon, forecasters said.
