Phoenix liquor store employee allegedly attacked with pepper spray by thief

  • December 3, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Trevor’s Liquor is asking for the community’s help in finding a suspect after an alleged thief pepper-sprayed an employee.

On Nov. 25, around 3:00 p.m., a Trevor’s Liquor employee was attacked with pepper spray at the store’s Indian School Road location in Phoenix. The suspect left the scene with three bottles of liquor valued at more than $600.

According to store management, the suspect entered the store in the middle of the afternoon and engaged a manager in conversation about tequila.

While staff were assisting customers, surveillance footage shows the man returning to the liquor aisle, taking three bottles, and walking out of the store.

A Trevor’s employee pursued the suspect into the parking lot in an effort to stop the theft. The suspect turned and sprayed the employee with pepper spray, leaving her with burning, swollen eyes and throat irritation.

Scott Guyette, manager of the Indian School Road location, said the incident struck a nerve because an employee was injured.

“This one struck a nerve because one of our employees was hurt,” Guyette said. “We are going to pursue this person.”

Guyette said the suspect is believed to have visited another Trevor’s location on McDowell Road, just east of Scottsdale Road, earlier that day and committed a similar theft there.

The suspect remains at large. Trevor’s Liquor is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Phoenix Police:

  • Non-emergency: (602) 262-6151
  • Emergency: 911
