A Los Angeles police officer was wounded Saturday in a shooting while patrolling the Exposition Park area.
The shooting occurred at 3:47 p.m. Saturday at 39th Place and Western Avenue, at or near Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Charles Miller told City News Service.
Officers returned fire but the suspect was not hit, Miller said. The suspect was taken into custody. Police did not provide a description of the person.
The officer was taken to California Hospital for treatment and had stable vital signs, Miller said. It was not clear whether he was transported in a patrol vehicle or ambulance.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell will provide a statement outside the hospital, but a time was not yet scheduled.
The shooting is under investigation and a large crime scene has been marked in the area.
