A Marine died Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle training accident at Camp Pendleton, officials said.
An statement issued by the Corps said the service member assigned to the I Marine Expeditionary Force “died as a result of injuries sustained in a tactical vehicle mishap during
routine training.”
The incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. and is under investigation. The specific type of vehicle was not disclosed.
The name of the deceased Marine was being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification.
State Sen. Catherine Blakespear, who represents the Camp Pendleton area, offered her condolences.
“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to the Marine’s family, loved ones, and other service members who are grieving this loss,” she said in a statement on X. “Our Marines put themselves in harm’s way every day even on home soil during routine training so that our nation remains safe.”
