PHILADELPHIA — Traffic on Interstate 76 in Philadelphia will be impacted by bridge work for half a year, according to PennDOT.

Beginning Sunday, drivers on I-76 west will encounter lane restrictions and closures due to the $148.9 million project to rehabilitate the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak and I-76, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad in Center City.

This work will restrict and close I-76 west at 30th Street through June 1, 2026.

I-76 west will be reduced to one lane between the 30th Street and Interstate 676 interchanges from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays.

Additionally, I-76 West will be closed and detoured between the 30th Street and I-676 interchanges from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. The closure will also be in effect Sundays through Thursdays.

Drivers will be directed to exit at 30th Street and travel west on Schuylkill Avenue to access the ramps to I-76 west and I-676 east.

Due to the upcoming winter holidays, no overnight closures will occur from Dec. 21, through Jan. 3, 2026.

Drives are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
