The Texas Education Agency says 286 applications were completed for the Fort Worth ISD board of managers.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Now that the deadline has passed to apply to serve on the board of managers for Fort Worth ISD, more details have emerged about the nearly 300 applicants.

After opening applications for the board of managers following its announcement of its intent to appoint a board of managers and conservator to oversee Fort Worth ISD, the Texas Education Agency extended the deadline to apply from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) says 286 applications were completed — 105 from former ISD employees and 35 from current ISD employees.

Of the applicants, 23 are current or former board members, according to the TEA.

The TEA says 153 of the applicants are women and 133 are men, and nearly all, 222, live within ISD boundaries.

Of the 286 applicants, 99 are current Fort Worth ISD parents, 72 are former Fort Worth ISD parents, 89 attended Fort Worth ISD, and 84 are Fort Worth ISD graduates, the TEA says.

Of the applicants, 60 have a Bachelor’s degree, 131 have a Master’s degree, and 69 have a doctorate. according to the TEA.

The new details about the board of managers applicants come after Christopher Ruszkowski was appointed conservator for the district in November.

The TEA’s planned appointment of a board of managers and conservator to manage Fort Worth ISD came after one of the district’s schools, Leadership Academy at Forest Oak 6th Grade, maintained an unacceptable rating for five consecutive years, according to the 2023 TEA A-F ratings, which, under state law, triggers mandatory closure or the possibility of a state-appointed board. The district has since closed Leadership Academy at Forest Oak 6th Grade and consolidated it into Forest Oak Middle School
