Editor’s note: Featured pets may be adopted quickly, but there are always others ready for their forever home.

At the Humane Society of North Texas, adoption is about changing lives, one match at a time. Learn more about adoptions at HSNT’s Fort Worth and Keller locations, or at off-site adoption events held six days a week at HSNT.org.
At the Humane Society of North Texas, or HSNT, rescue work doesn’t stop at cats and dogs. In Joshua, about 30 miles south of Fort Worth, HSNT Equine Ranch is a refuge for horses that offers safety, rehabilitation and a chance to start over. Each horse that passes through its gates carries a story worth telling.
Especially memorable is Darth Vader.
Despite his name, this paint gelding is firmly on the light side these days. With a striking coat and confident stride, Vader commands attention the moment he steps into view. He recently made a breakthrough in HSNT’s groundwork training program, revealing a calm, responsive nature that now shines through his once-guarded exterior.
Vader stands approximately 14.2 hands tall, is about 22 years old, and has shown patience and cooperation with both the ranch’s veterinarian and farrier. While he’s not looking for the intensity of a working career, he’s ready to be a companion horse who brings quiet strength and steady presence to his next home.
Like all horses at the HSNT Equine Ranch, Darth Vader is up to date on shots, Coggins test — used to identify horses infected with Equine Infectious Anemia virus — dental care and farrier work, and he is microchipped. His age is an estimate, but his readiness for a new beginning is certain.
Darth Vader is available for adoption now. To learn more about the HSNT Equine Ranch, please visit hsnt.org/ranch and follow our Equine Facebook page!
When you adopt from HSNT, you’re not just welcoming a companion; you’re supporting critical equine rescue work that gives horses like Vader the opportunity to step out of the shadows and into the light.
