The Phoenix Mercury‘s 107–86 victory over the Chicago Sky was a statement win, marking their highest offensive output of the season. And the aftermath of the game saw Angel Reese taunted with her old catchphrase after posting a career-low in rebounds.
Following the win, Phoenix forward Kahleah Copper took to social with a post that read: “DUBS IN THE MF CHATTTT.” This phrase echoed a viral celebration by Chicago Sky’s Reese earlier in the season, where she had written, “DUBS IN THE CHAT! THANK YAAAA!” Reese’s original post became a catchphrase among her growing fanbase, especially with her new merchandise with the slogan “Mebounds” recently taking off.
Copper’s use of the phrase after the Mercury’s victory was seen by many as a pointed jab at Reese, especially considering the context of the game. Reese, who was recently humbled by All-Star voting returns, had her worse performance in the WNBA off the boards, recording just 2 rebounds while scoring 9 points, a stark contrast to her usual double-double averages.

Phoenix set a franchise record by sinking 17 three-pointers, with Sami Whitcomb contributing five of them and finishing with 17 points. Kahleah Copper added 16 points, and Kalani Brown made a three-pointer in the final seconds, marking her second career three and breaking the previous record of 16.
The Mercury’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with six players hitting at least two three-pointers, tying the WNBA single-game record. This victory extended Phoenix’s win streak to five games and improved their record to 11–4.
For the Sky, Kamilla Cardoso led with 17 points, and Michaela Onyenwere contributed 17 points off the bench. However, the team committed 21 turnovers, leading to 32 points for the Mercury and a 3-9 record overall for Chicago.

The next meeting between the Sky and the Mercury on August 3rd is anticipated to be charged with emotion, as both teams and their star players look to assert dominance. The rivalry between Reese and Copper adds an intriguing subplot to what is already shaping up to be a compelling season in the WNBA.
The Sky will look to rebound from their loss to the Mercury as they face the Atlanta Dream on the road Sunday. They will then return home to host the Los Angeles Sparks, aiming to improve their record and regain momentum in the WNBA season.
