Some pets are very passionate about guarding their loved ones from intruders. However, we don’t typically think of a Cockatoo playing the role of guard dog—but maybe we should!
Sweet Pea the Parrot has been perfecting her “bark” for a while now, and she uses it more than the family’s dog uses his. In a recent TikTok video shared by @theparrotlady, Sweet Pea is pacing back and forth along the kitchen counter, and it’s clear that something is bothering her.
She is barking up a storm, with her feathers all fanned out, and it’s obvious that something has upset the Cockatoo—but only Sweet Pea is bothered. Mom mentions in the comment section, “Sweet Pea saw an unauthorized dog in the backyard and was not pleased. She continued to bark even after I’d taken the dog back to my neighbors.”
Although the video is only 28 seconds long, we’d be willing to bet that the Cockatoo carried on for much longer than that. About halfway through the clip, Mom says, “What is going on?”—but this does not deter Sweet Pea. She continues to pace across the counter, hippity-hopping and barking, likely until she feels heard.

While Sweet Pea is barking, her bird brother Brody can be seen in the background, and he does not look amused. In fact, he appears to be questioning her sanity as the barking continues.
Thoughts From the Comment Section
This little guard dog (err… bird) has a fun group of followers who just love Sweet Pea and her antics. One viewer suggested, “Sweet Pea is tattling on Brody. Brody didn’t do his chores today, but Sweet Pea did, Mom!” And she could be right—maybe the dog in the backyard was just the excuse to get the tattling underway.
Several fans also noticed Brody in the background and commented, “Brody is definitely judging hard!” and “Brody in the background giving the stink eye like, really man, shush! LOL!”
Sweet Pea takes her position as the head of household security very seriously. She clearly has everyone’s safety and security as her top priority.
