Warning: these burgers are going to make your mouth water so much you might need a towel.
It’s hard to beat a good burger for a quick, easy meal — especially one with freshly made fries and reasonable prices. San Antonio has lots of great options, but the folks over at review site Yelp have collected data showing who reins supreme.
These burger joints all have one thing in common — great burgers. But that’s just about where the similarities end.
First, there’s the question of the bun. Whether you are pro-brioche bun, classic bun or are adventurous (and hungry) enough to try a burger wedged between two grilled cheese sandwiches, this list covers a wide spectrum of styles.
Then there’s the patty itself, which can be smashed and crispy, thick and juicy or not even beef at all.
Though some of these top spots were to be expected, there were a few newcomers and surprises. Can you guess who Yelp contributors rated No. 1?

19. Mad Mack’s Burger
3023 S Presa, (210) 922-1500.
” I had the Mad Mack Burger and it was delicious from the first to the last bite. The double patties were perfectly cooked and seasoned and absolutely juicy in a good way. I can honestly say this is one of the best hamburgers I’ve had in years. And I’ve eaten hundreds, if not thousands over the years. The buns are Texas toast grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns. It was awesome. And if that wasn’t enough, Bacon and two giant onion rings. Stop reading and get to the front of the line and order a burger and prepare to fall in love. BTW…wear your stretchy pants because this is a monster burger.” – Jason B.

15. Picnikins Patio Cafe
Multiple Locations, picnikins.com.
“Picnikins burger patties are served up thick, juicy, and hearty, all on a brioche bun. Now brioche buns can be rather controversial–some people arguing that they’re too sweet–but a toasty brioche sops up the juices of a tender beef patty and sends your tastebuds over the moon. Picnikins perfectly executes this.” Mariam H.
