KERR COUNTY, Texas — It’s a frantic 911 call from one of the Eastlands, the family that owns Camp Mystic.

The call is short, but he is clear about the tragedy unfolding at the all-girls camp along the Guadalupe River. His call came in at 7:22 a.m., the first from camp management that we have found so far.

In the recording, the caller identifies himself as camp director Britt Eastland and tells the dispatcher they need help immediately:

“Here at Camp Mystic in Hunt. We need search and rescue. Okay, what’s going on? We’re missing as many as 20 to 40 people,

Okay, sir, what is your name?

My name is Britt Eastland. I’m a director here at Camp Mystic.”

Camp Mystic has said it plans to reopen next year.

In all, 25 girls, as young as 8 years old, and their 18-year-old counselors died that day. One little girl, 8-year-old Cile Steward, is still missing.

Several of the families are suing Camp Mystic and do not want the camp to reopen.
