A road rage encounter on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia early Sunday morning quickly escalated into gunfire, leaving a passenger wounded and forcing authorities to shut down the highway’s northbound lanes for several hours. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred on Sunday, November 30, 2025, when troopers received reports of shots being fired at around 7:12 a.m. near the Cottman Avenue area of I-95 North.

The confrontation centered around two vehicles: a brown Honda CR-V and a silver Honda Accord traveling in the same direction. During the encounter, police say the driver of the silver Honda Accord fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic pistol, striking the CR-V several times. One of those rounds hit a passenger in the CR-V, who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.

Rather than waiting for emergency responders, the occupants of the CR-V continued off the highway and drove the injured passenger to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where the individual received treatment. Authorities have not released identifying information about the victim.

As troopers arrived on the scene, they immediately secured the area and shut down the northbound lanes of I-95, allowing investigators to recover shell casings, examine the damaged CR-V, and piece together the sequence of events. The closure stretched into late morning, with reopening times documented between 11:20 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., depending on the specific portion of the roadway affected.

While traffic backed up along the interstate, investigators were already working to track down the suspect vehicle. Their search led them to the 4300 block of Sheffield Street in the Holmesburg section of the city. At approximately 8:50 a.m., troopers located the silver Honda Accord parked outside a residence. A man and a woman were found inside the home and were detained as the investigation continued.

State Police then executed search warrants on both the residence and the vehicle, recovering evidence that officials say is directly connected to the shooting. Following those searches, a male suspect was taken into custody, and attempted homicide and related charges are pending. His name has not been publicly released.

The case is now in the hands of the Pennsylvania State Police Philadelphia Station Criminal Investigation Unit, which continues to review evidence and interview witnesses. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact PSP-Philadelphia at 215-452-5216 and reference incident number PA2025-1485514.
