As promised, Neiman Marcus Downtown in Dallas will remain open through this holiday season, but fans of the iconic storefront have reason to be a little more merry. Saks Global is signaling it will maintain the location well into next year as talks continue with city officials.

Back in February, Saks announced it was planning to shutter the store in the spring, but a consortium of downtown stakeholders and city officials lobbied the company to consider keeping it open. After a month or so of wrangling, the retailer said it would keep the brand’s Dallas flagship in operation while it explores a reimagining of the space in collaboration with the city.

Saks did not make a long-term commitment to the store, but it did say shoppers would be able to enjoy it through the holiday season. Now, it seems a future beyond 2025 is increasingly likely.

“We continue to have productive conversations with the City of Dallas to potentially reimagine the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas location,” a Saks Global spokesperson said. “The store will remain open past the 2025 holiday season while this process continues in 2026. We remain committed to serving our loyal Dallas customers and look forward to sharing more soon.”

Sounds promising, right? News of the store’s extended stay of execution follows some positive signs in the central business district. Anti-crime initiatives devised by the city and neighborhood stakeholders appear to be paying off. More police officers have been deployed downtown, and efforts to rehouse the homeless and shut down encampments in the neighborhood were ramped up over the summer.

“Neiman Marcus has been woven into the fabric of Downtown Dallas for more than a century. Their continued commitment to Downtown signals that the work we are doing to improve safety and reduce homelessness is making Downtown a place where legacy retailers can grow and adapt with us well into the future,” Downtown Dallas Inc. president and CEO Jennifer Scripps told CandysDirt.com in a statement.

Scripps tipped her hat to City Manager Kimberly Tolbert and the Dallas City Council for engaging with Saks and working to “support Neiman’s continued presence in Downtown, and we look forward to learning more about their specific plans soon.”

No doubt decreases in crime and homelessness are welcome, but there are also exciting projects being floated in the central business district, like new financial and entertainment districts. Officials have also been motivated to revitalize the neighborhood. Not only is the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center redevelopment underway, but serious consideration is being given to offloading City Hall to activate the prime real estate there.

Maybe all that promise will help secure Neiman Marcus Downtown’s future in the neighborhood. In any case, go ahead and get your fill of Dallas holiday traditions at the brick-and-mortar. Guests can book photos with Santa throughout the season. The iconic Zodiac Room is once again serving its annual holiday buffet. And for families looking to make a full morning of it, the store is hosting Breakfast with Santa and Storytime with Santa.
