SAN ANTONIO — A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon after authorities said he fired a gun inside an apartment and attempted to get away by jumping from a second-story window at a Northwest Side apartment complex.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at an apartment complex off Mickjohn Walk near North Zarzamora Street.

Police said they were at the apartment to execute a search warrant when they saw someone run into a back bedroom and shut the door. Moments later, a gunshot was heard from inside the room.

Investigators said the teenager then leapt from a second-floor window and fled on foot, carrying a rifle. He attempted to enter a nearby apartment in a separate building but was unsuccessful.

Detectives apprehended the boy shortly thereafter. The rifle was recovered on the street near a staircase where the teenager had been seen running. Probation officers at the scene reported witnessing the youth discard the firearm before ascending the stairs.

Due to his age, authorities have not released the suspect’s name.

The investigation remains ongoing.
