The Scottish Open is less than a week away, and anticipation is soaring. With the FedEx Cup Playoffs set to begin on August 6th, players are eyeing every opportunity to climb the standings.

Big names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Padraig Harrington, Wyndham Clark, Garry Woodland are all confirmed to tee off.

But one name conspicuously absent is Jordan Spieth, whose injury at the Travelers Championship has led to an omission from $9 million event’s field.

Spieth withdrew mid-round at TPC River Highlands, marking the first WD of his career in 297 PGA Tour starts.

The 3-time major winner was 5-over through 12 holes when he walked off the 13th tee in visible pain. “Everything was great in my gym session, and I’ve been very, very excited to go out and play,” Spieth said post-round.

“Things have been getting better and better, and then my right scap just kind of locked—like tightened midway through the warmup… then it was over the left and then it was like everything, so I stopped”.

He tried to push through, knowing the Travelers was a no-cut Signature Event with valuable FedEx Cup points. But after a painful bunker shot, he made the call. “I hit my tee shot on 13, and it legitimately really hurt,” he said.

“I was walking off that tee, and I’m like, if it’s even harder to turn, then I’m not going to be able to make a backswing that’s even useful”.

Despite the setback, Spieth shared a silver lining that is his growing family. “We’re having a baby here in a couple of weeks, so I’ll have some time off now, obviously, to get healthy,” he told reporters.

Spieth’s absence from the Scottish Open is a blow to fans, but this might be a chance for him to be next to Annie when she needs him the most.

And he remains in solid standing. Spieth’s current rank is No. 48 in the OWGR and 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings with 819 points.

His season highlights include a T4 at the WM Phoenix Open, T14 at the Masters, and T7 at the Memorial Tournament.

The 153rd Open Championship begins July 17 at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. The prize purse is expected to match last year’s $17 million, with the winner taking home around $3.1 million.
