A 42-year-old who was killed in Red Bird on Monday was fatally shot twice by an employee at his job, according to court records.
Billy Brightman, 42, was working as the manager of Raw Wheels and Tires in the 4000 block of West Camp Wisdom Road when the shooting occurred around 1 p.m., according to the suspect’s arrest-warrant affidavit.
Brightman was working at the front counter when 21-year-old Marlon Lawrence, a tire technician at the shop, approached him, according to court records. Lawrence is accused of then shooting Brightman in the back and again in the face, court records said.
Another employee at the shop called 911 after hearing the gunshots.
Fire crews responded to the shop, where Brightman died.
Detectives said in the affidavit that video from inside the shop showed Lawrence shooting Brightman. During an interview, detectives said Lawrence admitted to shooting Brightman, then placing the handgun in a vehicle parked at the shop.
