Friends surrounded family as churches opened their doors in Flower Mound on Wednesday, one day after a 14-year-old was hit and killed while walking home from school.

Tuesday, Flower Mound police say a driver stopped at a stop sign on Browning Road and Valley Ridge Boulevard hit Isha Mishra as she began crossing the street just a few blocks from home.

She was rushed to Medical City Denton Hospital, where she later died.

Wednesday, with loved ones crowding her home, her uncle Sambit Mishra told NBC 5 that they’re remembering her for her love of singing and dancing, a desire to learn sign language, and dreams of a career helping others.

“We just hope wherever she is that she’s happy,” he said.

He said she had a kind heart and cared deeply for friends.

Last week, Mishra hosted several at a Friendsgiving.

On Wednesday, Trietsch United Methodist Church opened its sanctuary to some of those classmates and others trying to process the loss.

“Well, it was devastating,” said Senior Pastor Daneil Humbert.

He said the loss is felt community-wide.

“Well, it has ripple effects, right? It has ripple effects for the teachers and administrators, certainly for the families involved for this young woman’s family, for the driver’s family, for friends, even coworkers, church members, it has ripple effects,” he said. “And again, it’s always been our desire to help people, to let them know that we care, that God cares, and that we want to do whatever we can to help.”

Loved ones remembering a 14-year-old high school freshman who was killed while walking home from school. NBC 5’s Larry Collins tells us about the family’s message of forgiveness.

Police said the driver, a 60-year-old Lewisville resident, remained at the scene.

As of now, no charges have been filed.

Amid their grief, Mishra’s uncle said they’re moving forward as they believe she would.

“She’s such a kind person. We don’t have any hate or anything bad for the person. We don’t know what happened, how it happened. We still don’t know, but then, there’s no resentment in us. Isha would have not had any anger or resentment. She would have just forgiven,” he said.

Following the collision, Lewisville ISD released a statement:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a Marcus 9th Grade Campus student was killed today in an auto pedestrian accident off campus. Our thoughts are with the family during this very difficult time.”

As spokesperson later added that the LISD CARE team, a specifically trained set of counselors, will continue to be on campus for students and staff for as long as the support is needed.
