A Jacksonville man was arrested early Saturday after deputies say he fired gunshots that struck a vehicle outside a Cedar Point bar.

According to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just after 1 a.m. on Dec. 6 to reports of gunfire at RipTidez Bar and Grill. When deputies arrived, they determined no one had been injured and that the incident appeared to be isolated between the people involved.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Aron Arriaga of Jacksonville, shot the victim’s vehicle in a nearby parking area. Detectives processed the scene and collected shell casings and surveillance footage from the business.

Shortly after the shooting, deputies shared information about the suspect’s vehicle with surrounding law enforcement agencies. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, where Arriaga was found behind the wheel, authorities said.

A firearm was seized during the stop, and Arriaga was arrested by Onslow County deputies on a charge of driving while impaired. He was taken to the Onslow County Jail.

Carteret County deputies say additional charges related to the shooting are forthcoming. The investigation remains active.
