
Lighting ‘the world’s largest menorah’ in New York City
The over 30 foot tall, steel menorah is certified by Guinness World Records as the largest menorah.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-night Jewish celebration that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabees’ victory over the Seleucid Empire.
Hanukkah this year starts on Dec. 14 and lasts through Dec. 22. During Hanukkah, families light the menorah, adding one candle each night, and participate in various traditions such as eating foods fried in oil, playing traditional games and exchanging gifts.
If you’re in the Phoenix area and want to celebrate, there’s no shortage of events. From menorah lightings and gatherings, here are six events to attend and celebrate in the metro Phoenix area.

Hanukkah begins at sundown on Dec. 14 and ends at nightfall on Dec. 22.
Hanukkah Celebration in Scottsdale
Head over to Old Town Scottsdale and join in lighting the menorah and join the Chabad of South Scottsdale for a family-friendly public event. Live music, singing and kids’ crafts will also be featured.

Chanukah in Carefree
For the ninth year, Chanukah in Carefree invites the community to gather for its weeklong holiday celebration at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion in the Carefree Desert Gardens. The festivities, such as performances, food and cultural festivals, will take place each evening from Dec. 14 through Dec. 21. Mesa’s Menorah Lighting
Mesa’s Menorah Lighting marks the start of Hanukkah during the city’s Merry Main Street event. There will be crafts and activities for kids of all ages, plus the lighting of the first candle on the menorah at 6:30 p.m.

Chanukah Celebration in Phoenix
The annual Chanukah Menorah Lighting event will offer a mesmerizing fire show, craft activities for kids and the savory and sweet delights of latkes and doughnuts. There will be live music and surprises throughout the evening.

Menorah Lighting in Tempe
Experience the enchantment of the holiday at downtown Tempe’s Menorah Lighting at Ragsdale-MLK Park, formerly Sixth Street Park. Presented by Downtown Tempe and ASU Chabad, this annual event includes festivities, snacks and a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

Hanukkah at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix
Join the holiday spirit with the lighting of the menorah, and indulge in traditional treats, including jelly doughnuts, latkes, brisket tacos and Brooklyn Lager from New York City. Play Jewish Trivia at 6:45 p.m. This all-ages event features a special Hanukkah set by Rick Naimark on piano and vocals.
