A man driving a pickup truck died Saturday when the vehicle crashed into an overpass on the transition from the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Boyle Heights.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 12:57 a.m. Saturday.
Cesar Ruiz, 38, died from blunt force trauma inside the truck in an accident, the Medical Examiner’s office reported. Ruiz’s city of residence was not provided.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to free his body from the wreckage, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Two lanes of the transition road were shut down for the recovery and investigation.
