The National Weather Service is forecasting a period of warm, dry weather for San Diego this week, with high temperatures 15-20 degrees above normal.

“Warm and dry with periods of weak Santa Ana winds this week,” the agency said in its Monday morning forecast. “The peak of the heat is expected to be Tuesday for coastal areas and Wednesday for inland areas.”

Highs Monday will be 69 to 74 near the coast, 75 to 78 inland, 77 to 82 in the valleys, 62 to 72 in the mountains and 76 to 80 in the deserts.

But on Tuesday, the high temperatures will rise to 74 to 79 near the coast, 81 to 84 inland and 82 to 86 in the valleys.

Santa Ana winds of 10 to 15 mph will cause low 10% to 20% humidity each afternoon, resulting in elevated fire weather conditions.

The weather service said weakening winds will bring cooling by Thursday, but high temperatures will still remain above average.
