Goretti Rivas-Ortiz, an algebra teacher at Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD’s Saginaw High School, received a $5,000 grant from Reliant Energy’s Cowboys Class Acts program.
Class Acts honors educators who encourage, lead and strive for excellence in the classroom. Rivas-Ortiz is one of six educators across the DFW area to be recognized this school year for their work empowering local youth, awarding $30,000 total in grants.
A presentation took place with Rivas-Ortiz receiving a personalized football, a Dallas Cowboys jersey with her name and a $5,000 check. Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy, Reliant mascot Hugo and Cowboys legend Joe Looney awarded Rivas-Ortiz the items.
“I am excited and honored to receive this grant and see the support from my teachers and students,” said Rivas-Ortiz.
She plans to use the money to do something for her students after STAAR testing along with adding resources to her classroom for learning.
