UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas – A major fire that broke out at an apartment complex near Joint Base San Antonio has left dozens of units impacted.

Around 4:55 p.m. on Sunday, a fire broke out at the Falcon Ridge Apartment Complex, near the corner of East Aviation Blvd and Harmon Drive.

According to the Universal City Fire Department, a total of 64 apartment units were impacted, with 11 having been completely destroyed.

“It’s a miracle that there were no injuries and no fatalities,” said Universal City Fire Chief Todd Perna. “This could have been a completely different story had the fire started at two in the morning versus 4:35 p.m.”

All residents affected by the major fire have been accounted for and temporarily rehoused. Residents looking to reclaim their belongings may have to wait to gain entry and retrieve their property.

Fire crews are working to determine the cause of the fire, which they believe was able to spread quickly between units due to a shared attic space.
