SAN ANTONIO – An elderly man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Southwest Military Drive near Roosevelt Avenue.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. when the man, believed to be in his late 70s or early 80s, stepped into the road and was hit by a dark-colored, small, compact SUV traveling eastbound.
The impact reportedly propelled the man nearly 20 yards, from the vicinity of the IBC Bank to a nearby Pika Pika sign. Emergency Medical Services arrived promptly and transported the man to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the SUV, who was cooperative and called the police immediately after the accident, showed no signs of intoxication according to preliminary tests conducted by responding officers. The driver remained at the scene and is not suspected of any wrongdoing at this time.
The San Antonio Police Department’s traffic investigation detail is on-site, conducting a thorough investigation. They are taking measurements and photographs, and the department’s Raven unit is utilizing drones to capture aerial images of the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and are seeking any additional witnesses who may have seen the incident unfold.
