An investigation is underway Saturday after an officer was hospitalized following a shooting at Exposition Park, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 3:47 p.m. near 39th and Western Avenue when officers attempted to apprehend a suspect.
During a foot pursuit, the suspect turned and opened fire on the officers. One of the officers was hit and transported to the hospital in “serious, but stable condition,” according to LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell.
The other officer returned gunfire but did not strike the suspect. He was arrested and will likely be booked for attempted murder of a police officer, McDonnell said.
A weapon was recovered at the scene.
Chief McDonnell says the injured official is a tenured officer assigned to the LAPD Southwest Division Gang Enforcement Unit.
The incident remains under investigation.
