PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two masked burglars broke into a Phoenix smoke shop early Monday morning, stealing thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise combined in what surveillance video shows was a quick operation.
The break-in at Rollerz Smoke Shop happened around 3 a.m. on Monday. Surveillance video from the shop shows one person wearing a hood and mask approaching the store with a trash bin, while another person uses what appears to be a sledgehammer to break a window.
Once inside, one burglar lifted the store’s cash box while the other swept vapes into the bin.
“I woke up and my boyfriend had called me and said, you don’t work today. And I was like, why? And he was like, you guys got robbed,” said Jacqualyn Long, assistant manager at Rollerz Smoke Shop.
Long said the thieves took the store’s cash box, which contained only a couple hundred dollars, as well as numerous vaporizers.
“Those were our main profits were the Geek Bars and just vapes in general,” Long said.
Long believes the suspects wanted the vapes to resell for quick profit.
“What we think is it’s just about the money. They just wanted to sell them,” she said.
This burglary isn’t the only smoke shop break-in Arizona’s Family has reported on recently. Last month, a car rammed through the doors of a Tempe smoke shop before the driver stole vapes.
Long said learning about the crime was heartbreaking.
“I will say it broke my heart. Cause I’ve been working here for like six months, and I’ve gotten to know the owner very personally, and he doesn’t deserve it, nor do any other small business. I just don’t get the point of why they would target a small business,” she said.
By Monday afternoon, the broken window was boarded up, though small pieces of glass remained outside the store.
Long had a message for the suspects: “I hope you know we will find you. No matter what, at the end of the day, you’re going to get caught. And karma is rough.”
Anyone with information can contact Phoenix police or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Witness. A GoFundMe to help the small business recover some of the money that was taken has also been created.
