SAN ANTONIO – A four-year-old boy has died after suffering a gunshot wound, launching a major investigation.

Just after 3 p.m., police were called to the scene of a reported shooting at a home near the corner of Windstone Creek and Limestone Hill on the far Northwest side.

According to Police Chief William McManus, police had received two calls, one inside the home and one outside, for a shooting.

Police say that the child’s father began performing life-saving measures before first responders arrived. The child suffered one gunshot wound with a handgun.

“So just after three o’clock, we received a call from inside the home, and one call from outside the home for gunshot officers arrived, and they found a four-year-old who had been shot,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the child was pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital. The father, a man in his 50s, and the mother, a woman in her 40s, were seen being taken into police custody.

Many questions remain unanswered, and investigators are working to determine if the shooting was accidental or otherwise. Both parents will be interviewed as to what happened.

“I don’t have any detail whatsoever about how the shooting occurred, except that it occurred inside the house, the mom, the dad, and the child were the only ones in the house at the time,” said Chief McManus. “And that’s all we have right now until we sort this out and talk to the parents.”
