Texas-based Japanese chain Uchi made its Philadelphia debut in November in Center City. Helmed by award-winning chef Tyson Cole, Uchi adds to a handful of new Japanese spots opening in Philly in the last few years. This location is the latest in the group’s ever-expanding national empire. The spacious restaurant, which includes a full bar, an omakase counter, and plenty of plush booths, spotlights sushi as well as other hot and cold Japanese-style dishes. Happy hour is a highlight, and already, the restaurant is busy.
This is your classic small-plates setup: tons of options, and you’ll want to share all of the items. Portions are small.
The comfortable dining room is great for pricier dates or celebratory dinners. Because of the sharing-style of menu, larger groups will also enjoy getting to share more dishes. On a recent visit, there were a handful of corporate groups enjoying the restaurant.
Happy hour is already busy at this spot, so consider visiting between 5 and 6 p.m. to sample a $10 version of the hama chili, nigiri priced from $6 to $11, and other discounted items.
