Marcus Rashford’s story at FC Barcelona this season has keen watchers at Manchester United, and Gerard Pique, as someone with ties to both clubs, has shared a ‘surprise’ of his about it.
Manchester United sanctioned Marcus Rashford’s dream move to Barcelona last summer in the hope that he would impress enough in Spain for them to make it permanent.
Rashford started on fire, and despite some recent hiccups, the loan has largely been a success, even though he might have to make do with a reduced role in the team now.
Gerard Pique, who has spent time at both Barcelona and Manchester United, has now shared something that has surprised him about Rashford at Barcelona.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that United’s transfer window next summer, to a large extent, depends upon Barcelona triggering Rashford’s option to buy for £25m.

The deal presents almost a £40m Rashford dilemma for Man Utd, so any good performance he has for Barcelona is cheered at Old Trafford.
It’s clear that the story between him and his boyhood club is over, so United will welcome Pique’s latest comments.
Pique holds an influential voice at Barcelona despite his retirement, so his comments about Rashford surprising him with his impact at the club will steer the narrative a bit.
In a recent interview with Moeve Futbol, Pique was asked to name a player who has surprised him the most, positively or negatively.
He said, “Rashford, I think he had a very good start. Now let’s see how it ends, or how it continues. He scored both goals against Newcastle. He has produced a lot in terms of numbers; he has contributed a lot.”
Man Utd don’t have leverage in Rashford talks
United will be grateful for Pique giving Rashford his endorsement because, as it stands, they don’t have much leverage in talks for Rashford.

Barcelona could easily refuse to trigger the option and try to negotiate another loan deal for him next summer because they know United can’t keep him, and he won’t go anywhere else.
The contract runs until 2028, so it’s a nightmare scenario for United, especially now that Rashford will have his squad role reduced.
They have to get him out of the door by any means necessary, and that means being held to ransom by the negotiating club.
His contract is among the last inheritances of the Glazer regime that the club will finally be rid of in 2028.
