NEW YORK CITY — New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has his sights on Congress and will look to unseat Rep. Dan Goldman for New York’s 10th Congressional District seat.

Lander announced his campaign on Wednesday in a video posted on Instagram.

I’m running for Congress because we’re facing a five-alarm fire for our democracy, and we need leaders who will fight, not fold,” he said. “Trump is abducting our neighbors and eroding our democratic institutions, and NY-10 residents are fed up with elected officials who’ve been acting like it’s normal. They want leaders who understand the stakes, and who will fight like our lives are on the line, because they are.”

The city comptroller has scored the endorsements of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, State Sen. Andrew Gounardes and New York State Assemblymember Robert Carroll.

He was also endorsed by the New York Working Families Party.

Lander in his announcement video touted his experience in public service, with stints as a city council member and comptroller.

Lander ran for New York City mayor in the Democratic primary in June but withdrew and later endorsed Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani for the position.

New York’s 10th Congressional District encompasses Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Gowanus, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, and Sunset Park. The district also contains parts of Borough Park and Bay Ridge and all of Prospect Park. In addition, NY-10 covers Governors Island.
