Florida State and Mike Norvell have a pair of offers out to fill a key position on each side of the ball.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Tulsa associate head coach / running backs coach Kam Martin is being targeted to fill the running backs role, and an offer has been made to bring him to Tallahassee.
We also understand that Tulsa is working to retain the fast-rising assistant coach, and Auburn has also recently stepped in to show interest in bringing him on board Alex Golesh’s staff we’re told.
Martin was an integral piece of Tre Lamb’s first year staff with the Golden Hurricane, helping them to a mid-September Friday night upset of Oklahoma State, 19-12. Tulsa finished with four wins in Lamb’s first season, notching victories over Abilene Christian (FCS – TX), Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Army.
A former running back at Auburn, Martin spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Gus Malzahn at UCF coaching the running backs. There, he developed RJ Harvery into a two-time finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the top running back in college football while breaking number of records en route to first-team All Big 12 honors.
In addition to his time at UCF, Martin also mentored the running backs at Incarnate Word (FCS – TX) and Texas State previously.
David Johnson, who had been with the Seminoles since January of 2020, recently left to join Ryan Silverfield’s staff at Arkansas, leaving an opening on the offensive side of the ball for Mike Norvell to fill.
In addition to that move on the offensive side of the ball, sources share that Brandon Harris has been offered the defensive backs job on staff.
Harris, a former defensive back at Miami with significant roots in The Sunshine State, spent this past season as the defensive backs coach at UCF.
After a professional career that included stops with the Texans, Titans, Dolphins and in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts to finish his playing days, the former corner got started in coaching with support staff roles at FIU and Florida State.
He took the corners job at FIU in 2021 before moving to FAU as corners coach for Willie Taggart. While at FAU during the 2022 season, Harris’ work in the defensive backfield helped the program rank 12th nationally in defensive touchdowns. When Tom Herman took over the Owls head coaching job heading into the 2023 season, Harris added the co-defensive coordinator title and served as interim defensive coordinator during the 2024 season before leaving for UCF.
