LA CROSSE (WKBT) — La Crosse’s North Community Library will close in June 2026. Starting January 2nd, the library’s hours will change to 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Main Library will also stop Sunday hours starting January 2nd. The previous hours were 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The library board decided to close the North Library because of a $175,000 budget cut. They voted 6-2 for the closure after listening to community feedback.

The board is currently working on ways to bring library resources like laptops, internet hotspots, and book vending machines to other places in the community.

As for the building, the city will decide its fate after hearing from the public.

Even though the North Library will close, La Crosse Public Library is committed to finding new ways to serve everyone. Residents are encouraged to stay involved and watch for updates.
