ORLANDO, Fla. — Pete Alonso is gone now, and that hits even harder than the beloved Edwin “Sugar” Díaz leaving the day before, because Alonso was a lifetime Met.
I don’t know if this offseason could get any worse, but as Mets people keep reminding me, we’re just getting started. This they say is a good thing. We shall see. Mets faithful aren’t pleased (and fairly, no one is more faithful than they are.)
“I totally understand the fans’ reaction,” Mets owner Steve Cohen texted The Post. “There is lots of offseason left to put a playoff team on the field.”
There’s lots of time, sure, and there are plenty of free agents and trade possibilities still out there, too.
