HOUSTON – Goodwill Houston is celebrating a major milestone with the grand opening of its brand-new Gessner Education and Training Center, a space designed to change lives through opportunity, education, and hands-on workforce development.
Houston Life was there for an inside look at the new facility and to take part in the ribbon-cutting celebration at the center’s location at 8225 S. Gessner Road in southwest Houston.
The new center will significantly expand Goodwill Houston’s ability to serve the community, offering career training, certifications, and supportive services to hundreds of Houstonians each year beginning in 2026.
“This center represents hope, access, and real opportunity,” said Tanya Majied, Vice President of Workforce Development at Goodwill Houston, during the opening celebrations. “Everything inside these walls is designed to help people gain skills that lead directly to meaningful employment.”
Workforce Training That Leads to Real Jobs
The Gessner Education and Training Center will offer programs and certifications tailored to in-demand industries, giving participants practical, job-ready skills. These programs focus on helping individuals overcome barriers to employment while preparing them for long-term career success.
According to Goodwill Houston leadership, the center is expected to serve a growing number of individuals starting in 2026, connecting them to high-impact training and employment pathways that strengthen not just families—but the greater Houston economy.
Shopping and Donations That Fuel Change
A key message shared during the grand opening: every donation and every purchase at Goodwill directly fuels these life-changing programs.
“People often don’t realize that when they shop or donate, they’re not just giving away items—they’re investing in people,” said Mike Winckler, President & CEO of Goodwill Houston. “This new training center is a direct result of our community’s generosity.”
Funds raised through Goodwill Houston’s stores help power job training, education programs, and support services for individuals across the region.
A Celebration With Purpose
The grand opening brought together community leaders, Goodwill staff, and supporters to celebrate what many called a powerful step forward for workforce development in Houston.
From the ribbon cutting to tours of the modern training spaces, the day highlighted Goodwill Houston’s long-standing commitment to empowering people through education, employment, and dignity.
