Dallas’ largest and Texas’ longest running marathon, the BMW Dallas Marathon, is happening this weekend. Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to flood the city’s streets Saturday and Sunday.
Streets throughout the city on both days will be jam-packed with road closures. Here’s what you can expect.
Road closures
The marathon uses a rolling course closure method to reduce traffic disruptions, which means major intersections will stay open until just before the first runner approaches and will only reopen after the last runner passes through.
Breaking News
Various roads will be closed throughout downtown on Saturday from about 7:30 to 10:03 a.m. and on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to roughly 3:41 p.m.
Roads in Highland Park and Uptown will be closed from 7:43 to 2:29 p.m.; from 8:13 a.m. to 2:24 p.m. in Lakewood Heights; and from 8:23 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. in White Rock Lake.
Marathon hosts are encouraging drivers to, when in doubt, assume they won’t be able to cross or drive along the course route. Traffic updates will be available on Google Maps and Waze.
