A big cat has undergone surgery to restore her eyesight after zookeepers discovered she had a cataract.

The “relatively unique” procedure was carried out on Aurora, a three-year-old snow leopard at Banham Zoo in Norfolk, at the end of November.

Animal manager Deborah Harris said: “Procedures on big cats are always a little nerve-racking, especially a long procedure, but thanks to the dedicated care of the keepers and veterinarians, the whole day went smoothly.”

Snow leopards are listed as vulnerable and the wild population continues to decline.
