Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad spreads holiday cheer at Phoenix Fry’s Food Store

  • December 13, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad visited the Fry’s Food Store at 24th Street and Baseline on a December morning, with meteorologist Paul Horton distributing gift cards to holiday shoppers.

With just two weeks until Christmas, Horton was on a mission. “So let’s surprise some folks!” he exclaimed.

His first stop was the floral department, where he met a mother and her young daughter, each holding beautiful bouquets.

After introducing himself, Horton learned the girl was celebrating her birthday. It was the perfect moment to add a little extra joy. Horton surprised them with two $100 gift cards courtesy of Valley Toyota Dealers and Arizona’s Family.

With a cheerful “Happy birthday” and “Merry Christmas,” Horton headed off to find his next lucky Fry’s shopper.

Just a few aisles away, he met Gloria, who was doing her weekly shopping. In the spirit of the season, Horton handed her $200 in gift cards. The gesture brought tears to her eyes, and she gave Horton a heartfelt hug in return.

Always on the move, Horton soon met Jose, a man working two jobs to help pay the bills and care for his mother.

Jose, an avid 3TV watcher, immediately recognized Horton and even knew him from Paul’s Car Wash. He was very grateful for the gift cards, which offered a bit of relief during a busy and expensive time of year.

Then, like Santa himself, Horton bounced over to the self-checkout lanes, where he found Larry, the Surprise Squad’s final lucky shopper of the day.

“How about 200 bucks from the Surprise Squad?” Horton asked.“That works! Thank you very much!” Larry replied.

Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad, Valley Toyota Dealers and Fry’s Food Stores helped make the season a little brighter for some very lucky shoppers.
