A man is dead following a shooting in West Fort Worth early Friday morning, according to police.

West Division officers responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6400 block of Wildwood Circle at about 4:40 a.m., a news release from the department said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a man and a woman were providing a female acquaintance with a ride to the apartment complex, police said in the release. When the group arrived at the location, the acquaintance got out of the vehicle.

Police said as the man prepared to drive off, he was “approached by two unidentified suspects who attempted to enter his vehicle.” One of the suspects pulled a gun and fired it, striking the man.

The suspects then fled the scene, police said. The victim — who has not yet been identified — was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Additional information was not available. Police said homicide detectives are actively investigating the incident.

The suspects are believed to still be at large, but police said that this was “an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community.”
