The Christmas story will be retold through pageants, processions and living nativity scenes at a number of churches around San Diego. There are Living Nativities where visitors can walk through scenes showing the events around the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, with Mary and Joseph, shepherds and angels.

CARLSBAD

Living Nativity: A free interactive walk-through Christmas story is from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 7807 Centella St., including Bible characters and live animals. A Sounds of Christmas musical celebration is at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Dec. 14. Christmas Eve candlelight services are at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 24. Visit christ-pres.church.

DEL MAR

Christmas Pageant: A Children’s Pageant that tells the story of the birth of Jesus and the events leading up to it will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 21 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 1 Parish Lane. The pageant features angels, shepherds, kings, and animals. Visit stpetersdelmar.net.

ENCINITAS

Nativity Pageant: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will put on a Nativity Pageant at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Dec. 24 at 890 Balour Drive. Children, youth and adults serve as the Holy Family, sheep, shepherds, angels and donkeys. There will be costumes at the door so all children who want, can participate in the Nativity Pageant. Visit standrewsepiscopal.org.

ESCONDIDO

Bethlehem Walk: The Bethlehem Walk of Escondido will be Dec. 12-14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2255 Felicita Road. The walk re-enacts the story of Christmas with the birth of Christ in the recreated town of Bethlehem from more than 2000 years ago. Visitors can walk through and talk to characters from the Bible, including Mary and Joseph, shepherds and Roman guards. Hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 12 and 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13-14. Walk-through Living Nativity: Community Lutheran Church hosts their Walk-Through Living Nativity celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ from 5 to 8 pm. Dec. 13 at 3575 East Valley Pkwy. There will be Christmas lights, hot chocolate, live animals at the free family event, which invites attendees “to ponder how Christ came to the world.”  A donation will be collected to help families and babies at Alternatives Medical Clinic. RANCHO BERNARDO

Walk Through Bethlehem: A free Walk Through Bethlehem is from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15750 Bernardo Heights Parkway. The interactive walk re-enacts the story of Christmas with the birth of Christ in the town of Bethlehem. Visitors can walk through and talk to Bible characters. RANCHO SANTA FE

Living Nativity: Horizon Church brings Christmas to life in a Living Nativity from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 19-21 at 6365 El Apajo. The event includes scenes and dramatic recreations that visitors can walk through that tell the story of the birth of Christ and his life, death and resurrection and saving grace. There will also be a marketplace with petting zoo, games and crafts for kids, hot chocolate, apple cider and food trucks. SAN DIEGO
Las Posadas in Old Town

The 67th annual reenactment of part of the Christmas story–the journey of Mary and Joseph before the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem–is at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. There will be a traditional procession, seasonal music and Christmas choirs. Come early for kids’ holiday crafts and refreshments. Admission is free. VISTA

Community Christmas Festival: An interfaith celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13-14 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,  451 W. Bobier. There will be live music,  food, nativity and creche displays from around the world.
