Fernando Mendoza edges Diego Pavia in our 2025 Heisman prediction

Our reporters predict Fernando Mendoza will edge Diego Pavia for the 2025 Heisman Trophy after a historic season for Indiana.

The 2025-26 college football bowl season officially begins on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the LA Bowl at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium.

The two teams competing in the bowl game are Washington and Boise State, two teams connected by their shared coaching history: Chris Petersen led both programs in his coaching career, coaching the Broncos from 2006 through 2013 and the Huskies from 20014 through his retirement following the 2019 season.

Champions of the Mountain West Conference, the Broncos are making their third straight bowl appearance under Spencer Danielson and their second trip to the LA Bowl in the last three years (the first trip came in 2023, when Danielson was serving as the interim coach). One year removed from their CFP quarterfinal appearance with NFL running back Ashton Jeanty, Boise State is led on offense by quarterback Maddux Madsen and Dylan Riley.

Washington finished tied for seventh in the Big Ten this season under Jeff Fisch with a 5-4 conference record. It’s the first trip to the LA Bowl for the Huskies, who are led on offense by quarterback Demond Williams Jr. and safety Alex McLaughlin on defense.
