Over the past five years, the Small Business Bureau has disbursed more than $1 billion in grants to over 4,000 businesses and facilitated nearly $1.3 billion in loan guarantees through partnerships with financial institutions.

This was revealed by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues who was speaking last Friday at the Small Business Awards ceremony held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, where 16 businesses were recognized for excellence and innovation.

According to a statement on the ministry’s Facebook page, the minister also announced approval for eight community business development projects valued at nearly $60 million and commended the strong response to the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme. Training and capacity building, she said, remain priorities with thousands of businesses benefiting annually from programmes offered by the Small Business Bureau, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards, and the Guyana Tourism Authority.
