FORT WORTH, Texas – A woman was shot and killed at a Fort Worth motel early Friday morning while helping a friend track down his stolen vehicle, police said.
What we know:
Fort Worth police officers responded to the Sun Valley Motel in the 1800 block of Jacksboro Highway at approximately 5:20 a.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators believe the incident began after a man’s car was stolen overnight. According to police, the owner did not report the theft and instead went to search for the vehicle himself, bringing the victim along.
The pair located the vehicle at the motel. During a confrontation with the people inside the stolen car, the woman was shot. Two suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at large.

Police are also investigating whether the stolen vehicle was involved in a drive-by shooting earlier Friday morning. Detectives are working to confirm if it is the same car used in both incidents.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once family members have been notified. Homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
