Kendall Jenner is officially part of the growing list of celebrities and billionaires escaping to Wyoming. Rupert Murdoch, Bill Gates and Kanye West all own property in the state, drawn by its privacy, open spaces, but also no income tax.

The supermodel just opened the doors to what Architectural Digest recently described as her “top secret” mountain retreat, a surprising shift from her usual sleek, neutral aesthetic.

A Cozy, Colorful Retreat Built From The Ground Up

Jenner bought the remote property about five years ago on a whim after falling in love with the area’s energy. As a self-described “horse girl” who spent summers in Wyoming as a kid, she was captivated by the region’s natural beauty and sense of freedom.

The original structure on the land was unsalvageable, so she started fresh with architect Kirby Lee and tapped San Francisco-based designer Heidi Caillier to bring her vision to life.

“I had a vision. It was a house full of people squeezed onto a couch for game night,” Jenner told AD. “On one of my first trips there, it happened. It made me damn near emotional. I had this dream, and it happened in a home that I built.”

The result is a warm, lived-in space filled with color, patterns, and character, a far cry from the minimalist look often associated with Jenner. The centerpiece of the living room is a massive sectional sofa covered in 50 yards of floral Lee Jofa fabric. “I’m beyond happy with that couch,” she said. “There has never been a doubt in my mind about the fabric.”

Design choices throughout the home embrace a vintage-meets-modern feel, from checkerboard tile in the primary bath to tartan window seats and antique rugs. Jenner leaned into the idea of playfulness and comfort, telling AD, “I’m not a bare-bones type of girl. I love color, and I love pattern.”

More Than A House

With three bedrooms, cozy bunk nooks, and a kitchen fireplace suggested by her mom, Kris Jenner, the house was built with hosting in mind. Jenner emphasized her hands-on role in the process. “When doing any home, I love making things collaborative, and my choice in designer is extremely intentional,” she told AD. “I know that I’m going to be highly involved and extremely picky.”

Caillier introduced Jenner to new design ideas, particularly wallpaper and rich, earthy colors like aubergine and chartreuse. Even the bathrooms got creative, featuring a yellow sink and toilet that sparked attention on social media. “I can confirm there is a yellow toilet,” Caillier joked.

Not one to stop at a traditional house, Jenner also brought her 2020 Airstream Bambi up to the property, turning it into a cozy guest space with vintage linens, a zinc tub, and its own kitchenette. “It was a very special birthday gift and very sentimental,” she told AD. “Then I thought, wait a minute, how cute would that be as a guest room?”

These days, Jenner uses the hideaway to unwind in nature, go off-roading, hike, and cook with friends. Jenner said she enjoys spending time in the mountains getting dirty during the day and relaxing with a barbecue at night.

She described the pace of life as slow but satisfying, adding that despite thinking she might get bored if she stays too long, she never does.
